Course Description

USA Weightlifting will be hosting our Youth Summer Camp in Colorado Springs, CO Training Site TBD

The camp will consist of six training sessions and additional events to be announced at a later date

There are 20 slots available for the full camp package and 10 slots for the training only package. 

The full camp package will cost $1695 and includes room and board in a double room at the host hotel TBD, transportation to and from the airport and training, recovery options, and a spot at the camp closing banquet. Single rooms will cost $1995. 

The training only option will include access to training only during the event and will cost $795 and will include access to the closing banquet. 

The cost of travel is not included and is the responsibility of the participant. Participants selecting the training only option will be responsible for lodging and transportation to and from the airport and thier hotel. USA Weightlifting is not responsible for loss of travel expenses due to cancellation. 

Cancellation and Refund Policy: 

  • If the participant cancels their registration more than 2 months from the event they will receive their registration fees back less a $100 administration fee. 
  • If the participant cancels their registration less 2 months but more than 1 month from the event they will receive a 50% refund
  • If the participant cancels their registration less than 1 month from the event they will receive a 25% refund
  • No refunds will be issued if the participant "no shows"
  • Refunds will be reviewed on a case by case basis in the event of a personal emergency. 
  • If a camp has less than 10 athletes registered the event will be canceled by USA Weightlifting
  • If USA weightlifting cancels a camp participants will be given an option to transfer to another camp or receive a full refund. 
  • USA Weightlifting will not reimburse travel expenses under any circumstance. 

These fees are necessary for administration and management by USA Weightlifting as there are many logistical steps that occur from the moment an athlete registers for a camp. We implement this cancellation fee for all camps.

  • All camp fees are non-transferable after a 24 hour period from booking


Emmy Vargas

Emmy Vargas has been involved in the sport for over 20 years and has experienced almost every facet of USA Weightlifting. Now coaching athletes to their goals as head coach of Barbarian Barbell in Southern California, Vargas is also giving back to the Weightlifting community as a National Referee. She also recently served on the US Anti-Doping Agency Board of Directors representing athletes.

Vargas was a national and international competitor for USA Weightlifting for over 10 years, starting out under the watch of Coach Bob Takano before moving to Colorado Springs and the Olympic Training Center and Northern Michigan University for several years. She became a Pan American Champion and Pan Am Games silver medalist in a career that saw her compete at three Olympic Trials, the IWF World Championships, Pan American Championships and win medals of all colors at National and International competitions before retiring in 2008.

Since retirement, Emmy spent the eight years as the elected athlete representative to the US Olympic Committee’s Athlete Advisory Council and representing her fellow athletes on the USA Weightlifting Board of Directors, including a period as Interim Chair, while also becoming a National Coach. 

Since her retirement as an athlete in 2008, Emmy's coaching career includes leading 16 athletes to national competitions and 2 to international competitions.  In addition, Emmy has not only qualified weightlifters for national competitions, she has also medaled them at every age level including Youth Nationals, Junior Nationals, University Nationals, American Open, Senior Nationals, Masters Nationals, and Masters Worlds. 

Jimmy Duke III

Jimmy Duke has been the Head Olympic Weightlifting Coach for Lift for Life Gym since 2012.  In that time, he has coached several  Youth and Junior National Champions and his athletes have won more than 100 national and international medals.  Under Jimmy’s coaching, Jerome Smith became the top ranked USA youth athlete in 2018 and the lone male to represent the United States in weightlifting at the Youth Olympic Games.  Jerome was also the 2018 Youth Pan Am Champion in the 69 kilo class after taking silver in 2017.  Other notable athletes are Antwan Kilbert and Destiny Snider.  Kilbert has represented the USA at the Youth Worlds and Youth Pan Ams while Snider has been named to the Youth Pan Am and Youth World teams. Both are youth national champions and national record holders. His athletes' accomplishments have earned him the rank of USAW International Coach.  He coaches Lift for Life with his wife, Brittney, and works as a personal trainer and weightlifting coach at the Lab Gym in St. Louis, Missouri. Jimmy has been involved in Olympic Weightlifting for over 17 years.

Jimmy graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Exercise Science, with an emphasis in Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology and received his M.S. in Biomechanics from Illinois State University. While at Arkansas, he was part of the 2003, 04, 05, and 06 team NCAA National Champions in track and field as a pole vaulter and decathlete.  He coached collegiate track and field at Illinois State, Eureka College and Rend Lake College before coaching weightlifting.
